We all think we know how to use sunscreen… but most of us are getting it wrong.During our latest Broken Healthcare Podcast, Dr. Mike Webb — a board-certified dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon with 30+ years in the field — broke it down perfectly. Here’s his expert advice that everyone needs to hear this summer (and year-round):🕐 When to apply:“Put sunscreen on an hour before you go outside.” If you apply it as you’re heading out the door, you’ll sweat it off or wipe it off before it ever starts working.🔁 When to reapply:“If you’re swimming, sweating, or toweling off — reapply.” It lasts for hours if you let it absorb first, but water and friction will break it down.🧴 What kind to use:“You don’t need SPF 100. SPF 30 to 50 is perfect.” “Lotions and creams are better than sprays — sprays don’t stay on as well.”He personally recommends Neutrogena Dry Touch (SPF 30–50) for daily use.🧪 For sensitive skin:“Use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These are physical blockers — they literally reflect UV light.” Look for labels that say “mineral-based” or “broad spectrum.”🌞 How sunscreen really works: SPF doesn’t mean “stronger” protection — it means longer-lasting protection. If you normally burn in 10 minutes, SPF 30 means you could last about 300 minutes before burning (in ideal conditions).💬 His favorite reminder:“Sunscreen doesn’t work if it’s in the bottle.”Protecting your skin isn’t about vanity — it’s about prevention. Every sunburn increases your risk for skin cancer, and melanoma caught late can be deadly. If you haven’t already listened to this episode, it’s worth it just for this part. 🎧 Broken Healthcare Podcast with Dr. Mike & Elizabeth Webb — listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDZDnSRwk1Q#HealthcareEducation #SkinHealth #Prevention #Dermatology #SkinCancerAwareness #BrokenHealthcare
